> in March, when it had 643,000 downloads for the month. By August, the number had climbed to 1.34 million. Laforge attributes the jump to Apache's "stamp of approval" and the strong marketing Apache brings
That jump happened all in one day. Go to https://bintray.com/groovy/maven/groovy/view/statistics#stat... and click on "1 Year". Can the Groovy people explain this graph? Now click the earth icon on the far right. Can the Groovy people explain that map?
It looks to me like the downloads from Bintray are mostly faked, using a server somewhere in Germany. As for Maven, it looks like you can only see the stats for your own projects so I don't know the details, but if the Bintray stats are faked then Maven's probably are too. The person quoted in this article has a history of deception with regards to promoting Groovy.
I very much doubt Groovy's downloads changed after joining Apache, and probably would've gone down after the Pivotal fiasco in January. Groovy's backers are perpetrating a hoax.
