What should Twitter become?

2 pointsby satishmreddyover 9 years ago
Twitter’s greatest asset: Powerful signals to rank & personalize the internet
Twitter’s (potential impact): Catalyst for the effects of the internet: shrink the world, speed up communication, make knowledge discoverable, ….
What problem should twitter solve: Connect & communicate with content & people that people want & need to know. Twitter should be queryless search: show me 10 things I want to know today and 3 people I should connect with. Sometimes these are real-time, sometimes they are not.
Creators: (Generate content / Signal)
1. Influencers: Share content with the world Build professional reputation. Establish thought leadership in an area. Build relationships with people they don't have direct access to Entertain
2. Stars, Athletes etc: pr tv interviews, radio show. equivalent response for fan letters Build a fan following
3. Media companies: New live show where the entire world can be studio audience Interactive tv Communicate with audience Build closer relationship with fans.
4. Ireporting: Public service announcements
5. Grassroots movements / Protests
6. Brands & Businesses Pr Customer service Marketing Promotions
Content consumers / Mainstream Audience: Any of the below items that matter (doesnt have to be real-time) Consume content from stars Interact with tv and radio Discover content Chat room # room, Group chat, Direct messaging
Twitters biggest problem has been not being able to build a product for content consumers since content creators are focussed on real-time.
Split up the apps/UI for content creators/power users Vs consumers. Maybe it is time to build a separate app that delivers value to the content consumers that is Just In Time.
