Ask HN: Experiences with immunotherapy

3 pointsby selmatabout 9 years ago
What are your short-term and long-term experiences with immunotherapy treatment of seasonal allergies?
Have you experienced improvement, any side-effects, downsides?
I have read a lot clinical studies but, personally, practical results seems to be questionable. Percentage of treatment success (success is: you can survive a year without any symptoms of previously diagnosed allergy) is still very low with a lot of side effects. Patients reported that symptoms are not so intensive and problematic seasonal period is easier, but there are some frequent downsides like headaches and so on.
What I observed on my own, raining is the best weather and regular exercising 3 x 30-45 minutes per day helped me a lot and i don't need any pills for supressing symptoms. If i stop exercise i have 2-3 days latent phase where i can stay without pills and exercise.
I didn't measure yet, how intensive training needs to be (in terms of heartbeat rate) but i know that if my breathing during training is 1,5-2x faster than normal it's enough fo me.
I am asking how to handle situation with childrens who are not so disciplined and motivated to get and stay into so intesive training period.
