Atlantic Records wants to subpoena Reddit for "all and any other Reddit accounts which accessed [Reddit’s] service from the same IP address on or about June 15, 2016." That's an unreasonably broad scope and an infringement of privacy waiting to happen. If the user went through a public proxy or coffee shop, that could mean handing over hundreds of accounts' worth of personally identifiable information.
I'm not surprised at Reddit's response at all.

The user probably posted with either a public SOCKS proxy or TOR, so it would most likely be a pointless endeavor.
