I recently installed Sourcetree, which prompted for an Atlassian account, but my information was automatically submitted without any input from me. The software knew my email address and showed it on the screen when it was done registering. I thought this was strange, so I wiped the software from Mac OS in all the various Library/ folders that mention its product domain, com.torusknot (which is strange in its own right), and also ran this command:
defaults delete com.torusknot.SourceTreeNotMAS
I also checked my keychain and removed anything relating to bitbucket, sourcetree, or Atlassian. And, also removed any ssh keys, just to be thorough.
I checked with the AppZapper software as well to see if any other traces of the program remained. None that it or I could find.
I also made sure I was not logged into any Atlassian services online, cleared cookies as well, for fun.
Empty trash, reboot, download and run fresh install of Sourcetree. Strangely, the software still automatically connected to my online Atlassian account and showed me my email address after it "registered".
How does Atlassian know who I am on my machine?
