Ask HN: Do Programmers from Different Universities Have Different Styles?

2 pointsby arthurjjover 8 years ago
My wife, who's a photographer, says some well known art schools produce artists with a similar styles. She wanted to know if the same was true of programming schools. Of the top of my head the best I could think of was:
* The CMU programmers I've worked with tended to use A.I. techniques as their tool of choice.
* The Stanford programmers seemed to care the most about metrics.
* RPI programmers tended to care the most about the business domain.
* MIT programmers tended to favor low level solutions/rolling their own solution.
But the sample size for all of these is ~5 per school. What does HN think?
