Tell HN: They say for privacy go Incognito

1 pointsby bprasannaabout 8 years ago
But, in reality when we go incognito mode in Google Chrome the Extensions like adblockplus or ghostery won't work until we ask Chrome to allow extensions to run in Incognito mode! (https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/IPvVxmFJSnQ).
For this, Google has taken an approach of disable everything by default until someone is concerned enough to enable it.
Google has reverse strategy in case of user's privacy. Enable everything(tracking etc.,) by default, until user is concerned enough to disable it.
For example, the incident with Chromebook (https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2015/12/googles-student-tracking-isnt-limited-chrome-sync), for which Google responded: "If they choose to, educators, students and administrators can disable Chrome Sync or choose what information to sync in settings whenever they choose."(http://googleforeducation.blogspot.in/2015/12/the-facts-about-student-data-privacy-in.html).
But they missed to address the driving force behind the concern "Why enable tracking by default on students?". Doing justice for people's privacy and advertisers money shouldn't be an hard to crack algorithm for a company like Google.
Note: Mozilla Firefox doesn't stop extensions in Incognito, which means same experience as in normal mode without tracking.
