My story: currently I am in my hometown Nanded (India) for holidays. We have a BSNL broadband plan with 1 Mbps speed plan and its the worst.
my plan has a FUP limit. It means that after certain usage they will reduce your speed. fine . But when that usage is completed they redirect all HTTP traffic to local IP where they ask if the customer wants to recharge with a new plan. If one says no the service resumes with reduced speed. But the problem is that local IP is down for some time, therefore, I have been unable to browse HTTP sites. I tried to contact the local office but no response. My father told me that they unplug the telephone cable while they are in office and plug it back when they leave. He saw it by himself when he personally went to the office to register a complaint.
Also sometimes out of nowhere redirect HTTP traffic to their promotional pages, which freaks me out.
Also, speeds are tremendously slow sometimes. The call center respondents are terrible. The keep on hold for most of the questions. They don't know about most of the problems with broadband. The local office people are very rude and don't a give da*n about customer service at all (Well that's the case about most of the government offices in India).I have no other broadband provider in the area so no other option. Also, we pay like INR 1000 a month for this connection. There is a need of disruption in this sector.
ps- I have started using https everywhere. problem solved. but service and customer service remains the worst.
