“When is this going to launch?” he asks.
The founder says the app is six months out.
“How about six days?” asks Altman.
I've not been through YC but I have been through a good UK accelerator, and this is exactly the sort of question that makes accelerators worthwhile. An accelerator pushes you way out of your comfort zone, makes you question fundamental things and makes you realise some of your basic assumptions are grossly flawed. How long you have to spend building something before you can launch and charge for it is one of those things - most developers think something needs to be awesome before you can ask people to pay for it. That's just wrong. If you can nail the thing that solves a customers pain then they'll pay you for the most ugly, bug-ridden, horribe code because it gives them a ton of value regardless.
