Ask HN: Must a project use the copyleft license one of its dependencies uses?

2 pointsby l2dyover 7 years ago
opensource.guide[1] suggests that
> if any of your dependencies’ licenses are “strong copyleft” (also gives public same permissions, subject to condition of using the same license downstream), then your project will have to use the same license. Common strong copyleft licenses include GPLv2, GPLv3, and AGPLv3.
Is this true?
[1] https://opensource.guide/legal/#which-open-source-license-is-appropriate-for-my-project

The two safe options:
1. Pay an experienced attorney to explain your options.
2. Use a strong copy left license when in doubt.
Good luck.
