Ask HN: How do we do effective fact checking?

I've been thinking about fact checking and fake news for a while. Google / FB and the like have little incentive to do effective policing. Are you aware of chrome extensions / apps etc that do real time fact checking? If not, how can we do it better? How can we filter out blatant lies most effectively?
