Ask HN: Is CTCI still necessary if you don't aim for tech compnaies?

1 pointsby ccajasabout 7 years ago
CTCI = Cracking the Code Interview.
I haven't read it all from beginning to end but from skimming it I know it's very much tailored towards few specific companies that are big players in tech hubs. And its content has also been applied as a reading suggestion for any tech company that emulates their hiring processes.
So is it still necessary reading if you are a programmer who is not just looking for tech companies, or outside tech hubs? I live in Chicago, and even for local companies that have a sizable tech department, their interviews don't mimic much what I read in CTCI.
So interestingly, even job interviews appear to be culturally differentiated by locality, just as food, music, or regional holidays. I'd like to know how much relevance CTCI really has in the grander sense of all programmers in the US.
