Ask HN: Do crickets communicate in binary code?

1 pointsby naskwoabout 7 years ago
The sound of crickets reminds me of my old (90's) 56.6k modem.
Could it be that crickets communicate with each other in a form of binary communication (i.e. morse code)? Are there any studies on this? Has any effort to decode this been made?
Sure, they're just simple insects, but if the hypothesis is that the dumber a microservice is, the more elaborate its communications with the "mothership API" need to be; then we could assume that crickets need to communicate elaborately with each other for their basic needs.
