Being Generalist a Curse?

2 pointsby ramsundhar20about 6 years ago
I am passionate, about building software and went hands-on diverse set of technologies right from Embedded, Web to Data mining. Though each domain is so diverse, I learn things fast and start contributing almost immediately.
Being an INTP, I even out phase other developers in their domain of expertise in matter of few days. This ability raised me as a software generalist, right from my school days working as an assistant at Internet cafe to gain free access to Internet.
With my quick learning skills and ability to remember almost everything, It did allowed me to master multiple domains within a short span. Like Nodejs, Cordova, Embedded C, Android, iOS, Python, Linux, MYSQL, C#, Asp.net, Distributed Computing, Software Architecture, Algorithms. Apart from all this, I put my thought to make sure what I am building is right, this brings in more value to most startup organisations. Everyday, till now I keep learning and keep working hard to learn (about 12 hours a day on an average) and adopt to new things in the software industry.
According to me, every language is way of instructing the computer, except the syntaxes and language specific features, almost contributing in every language is same to me. Due to my diverse set experiences, my profile is not attracting my traction among recruters. It quite often gets rejected, even the first time I apply. I can project my profile as a specialist and get all their attention, which I try to avoid as it doesn’t reflect the inner me.
The organisations those who know me through their earlier interactions and association, retain me in their team and value my contribution.
Please share your comments. How can I be successful, in finding the job in need abroad. Reach out to me @ ramsundhar20@gmail.com
