Ask HN: How does one get back into tech companies after 4 years maternity break?

2 pointsby djangovmabout 6 years ago
Asking for suggestions on behalf of my wife.
She was working into tech industry in tech-ops/support roles before our daughter was born. She was working with technologies like SQL/Pl-SQL(oracle)/shell scripting etc.
Now that our daughter is around 3.5 years old, my wife wants to get back into technology, and if possible, not in tech-ops/support roles but more in roles which do minimise requirement of 24X7 on-calls.
What would it take to help her get back in the industry? Couple of options we thought of are formal-study from a college (MS/MBA/targeted courses), online courses, part time job to start with in an area of her choice (with roles like TPM etc) combined with some study cycle, full time job (difficult without prior relevant experience) etc.
What do you nice folks from HN recommend?
Couple of facts: Location: Seattle Visa: L4
