I have a prototype of a site with potentially broad appeal when it gets big enough, but I worry that community fragmentation of multiple sub-communities early on would slow the growth of the site, so I can really only target one or a few closely related demographics. The site's main method of growth will be through a combination of novelty and network effects, and it will differentiate itself from the competition by having an early focus on creating a mentally positive environment by suppressing negative content to a certain extent, thus avoiding the impacts of negativity bias[1]. This will hopefully avoid the negative outcome of sites like voat.co and lead to the site growing quickly.
Do you know of a demographic that is underserved by current media aggregation sites? Any advice on how to target that demographic and meet their needs?
[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negativity_bias
