HOw much should startups in incubator stage pay interns?

Ok I have a beautiful Ski resort home to offer and also will be traveling to tech conference to hopefully present working protoype. I mostly need an intern for Programming but would be nice if had other basic skills. I am also hiring freelancer to handle the major programing needed to complete the protype. . So I think the intern would like this opportunity. I guess I need to start posting on college boards. I think I will do the room and board and $500 month to draw good talent. Definitely plan to use my location as a drawing card. Thanks for all the great comments

Where are you located? Where did you find the intern? Whats the internship in? Given the best-case scenario, what do you expect from the intern? Do you possibly want to keep the intern on in the future?

Interns? Just give them pizza for lunch and dinner, and enough money to eat fish 'n chips or curry on the weekends; and provide 'em all the beer they can drink. But make it decent beer at least...

If you expect interns to do meaningful work, you should pay them something. It does not have to be money. Room and board is a great starting point. Is it full time internship? Then either add a small stipend or at least feed them
Beer is also a great motivator too. In general, have a fully stocked fridge and your intern will come to work happy and more likely to produce great stuffs.

This is highly dependent on the location, as well as, to a slightly lesser extent, what type of intern they are.
However, I think this might give you a good starting point: Rent + lunch and dinner in the office + $100-400/mo.

What kind of interns? Engineering or something else?
