Ask HN: Is there a point in using privacy-aware email if my contacts are Gmail?

1 pointsby nlteover 5 years ago
I currently have a free trial account on Fastmail because I'd like the idea of using a privacy-aware e-mail provider and I'm willing to pay for it when the trial period ends. But many people I'll be in contact with have their email on Gmail (and the like) anyway, so Google will able to collect data from me. Doesn't it make the move rather pointless? (Except for the fact that if nobody does it, the problem will never be solved...)
