Ask HN: Can Google search precision be lowered willfully?

2 pointsby acoyeover 5 years ago
I do a lot of technical searches on google and what one was a sharp scalpel feels now like a rusty tool. Results are more "trends" or what a laymen might be searching, it is strange to me. I Also noticed this on twitter: https://twitter.com/thegrugq/status/1168748166948081664
So. Technically. Would it be possible for the DOD to ask Google to reduce relevance on some subjects like infosec, or just for selected countries, like they do for the GPS?
I'm not insinuating that they do it, just that my recent searches made me ask myself this question.
Deep down I know that Google been weaponized would make a great Tom Clancy novel :D
