I think ultimately a succesful strategy is understanding who you are what makes you tick and adopting ways to use your positive attributes to drive your goals and minimize letting your negative attributes get in the way (maybe with the adoption of changing your enviornment as the article talks about). I have found this to be much more potent than trying to alter yourself in some way you aren't, i think every person after a certain age is more or less molded into what they are (core parts of your personality), to fight against this i think is a losing battle for most people.
