Ask HN: Engineering or Managerial path if looking to relocate to Europe

1 pointsby ksmgover 5 years ago
I'm looking to relocate to Europe in a few years, preferably Scandinavia, Netherlands or Germany and was thinking whenever it's better to stay in Engineering role or move to Management to get higher chance of landing a job that would bother to start visa process for me (I have an Australian citizenship)
I have a solid Software Engineering experience and recently moved to Management, but I wonder whenever it's a right choice considering my plans?
I always had a feeling that software engineers get hired and moved around all the time, but I know nothing about managers in this regard, are they highly sought after?
I also not sure "how the things are done" in Europe in this regards. Do they prefer to hire managers or grow their own, would manager be required to be proficient in a local language or it's all English these days.
Any recommendations where to get additional information, even which websites to use linkedin, indeed, etc?
The reason for move would be personal - living close to older relatives (in Eastern Europe)
