Ask HN: How to transition from developer to full time UX designer?

1 pointsby bob90about 5 years ago
I've been thinking about it for a while.
I'm a front-end developer with almost 6 years of experience. I've been around, I did some back-end dev, then a lot of front-end.
I was thinking about transitioning to something with less coding and more user - oriented.
I have to do a little of UI design as a font-end dev, but let's face it, we are so deep in the fixing bugs and architecturing the stuff that there is not much cognitive energy to do a real good UX job.
Any advice about how to approach an employer for a full-time UX Design job OR a full time Product Owner job with a front-end developer experience ?
Note : I just accepted a job as a Technical Leader for a front-end team. I'm not very happy about it, I was aiming for something with a lot less code and a lot more design, maybe even no code at all and more of a Product Owner/BA kind of job. I kind of accepted because of the salary they offered. I regret it now. But during my job hunt I couldn't land an interview for a UX Design position or a more Product Owner/BA kind of job.
