Ask HN: Should I bother doubling down on sales during this pandemic?

1 pointsby Malfunction92about 5 years ago
A little context: A big part of monetizing one of my projects (https://postmake.io) is selling directory listings for a flat fee. The price isn't too high (sub $200), which shouldn't be a big commitment to most businesses.
So far, almost all sales I've gotten were inbound – clients came to me.
Dedicating time for sales each week seems like a very natural approach for this project, and I've been setting up processes to help identify potential leads + reach out to them. This expectedly takes a lot of time.
But given the current uncertainty of this climate for most companies, with all the layovers and advertisers cutting budgets going on, I feel like if I double down on this right now, I'll be:
1- "wasting" a lot of potential leads that would otherwise buy, but won't right now, and 2- wasting time I could otherwise spend on other work, either technical or other marketing and promotion work, which is a big deal as I'm the only one running the project and am responsible for maintaining everything
Am I overthinking this? Did anybody else have to make a similar decision in the past couple of months?
