Ask HN: A competitor called me pretending to be a potential customer

4 pointsby ben-gyover 4 years ago
I just got a call from a competitor pretending to be a customer. I don’t know for a fact if they are a competitor but I’m confident given how much knew about the space from a technical perspective as was increasingly demonstrated as the call went on.
I’m not that worried about it to be honest. I think the fact they are calling is a sign that whoever it is isn’t focussed on their customers but instead copying me. If they want me to set the agenda for their company then fine, but they’ll always be at least one step behind.
I’d like to hear from the HN community if a similar has happened to anyone else and what you did about if anything) / how you felt about it? Should I expect more of this as my company gets bigger? Should / can I put checks and balances in place to prevent it?
Keen to hear your thoughts :)
