Do we need recruiters anymore?

1 pointsby unavidaover 4 years ago
Just do a few google searches about bad recruiters. It seems like recruiters or "talent acquisition professionals" as they call themselves now still continue to this day to have a terrible reputation.
It seems like there are more bad recruiters than good ones. Therefore, the question has to be asked do we need recruiters anymore?
It seems like technology or robots or AI can eventually replace a human recruiter.

A friend of mine was really unhappy at his job like 10 years ago, but he was kind of stuck. Two small children and a wife, not making a lot of money, and being a fairly average developer, working at a shitty company that heavily exploited their devs and relied on people not knowing they could just leave.
He eventually talked to a recruiter and told that recruiter about his situation and shyly asked whether he had anything for a developer of his skills. The recruiter reassured him, told him he'd find something for him and sent him home. The next day, he called my friend and asked him when he had time for an interview as he had two companies that were interested to meet him. They agreed and about a week later, he had signed a new contract and quit his old job, with a pay raise and a much nicer team.
My friend never wrote about it online. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of similar stories, but you won't hear about them, you'll only hear about the negative ones.

Giving hr to ai to handle is going to be a nightmare.
And btw, I don't think ai can be as good as human people at seeing potential, past the basic CV and/or cover letter.
And bias, gender bias, age bias or racial bias. There's a lot of bias in ai, and whenever somebody complaints then somebody else tries to mathwash it.
Let's just not, please.

s/recruiter/programmer/ and the question makes just as much sense.
