Ask HN: Will moving apps to the web bring back diversity in OS/Hardware?

1 pointsby mr_nobodyover 4 years ago
Recently I have read a lot about of the hardware&software being sold in the 80's 90's. Back then we had much more choice in terms of the computer architectures and OS's e.g. IBM, Apple, Amiga, Atari etc. But these days architecture matters less. Most of the software lives in the Web. Do you think we can expect completely new architectures and OS's gaining traction?

No. That ship sailed many years ago.<p>We probably won’t even have diversity of browsers, if recent history is anything to go by.
