Waymo rolls out a system extremely carefully: They're reckless, gambling with people's lives!
Tesla rolls out an alpha/beta quality system to any consumer who wants to test it, that has already led to the deaths of 5 people: Cheers!
Also Tesla: Failed in 2020 on a test that Waymo cars completed in 2009. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il4asorQEhU&feature=youtu.be
My biggest fears aren't from a small fleet of taxis, it's from millions of uninformed consumers turning on Autopilot, and one of these cars driving into the school playground and running my kids over with the driver asleep at the wheel.
5 people have died already, from a system that is constantly "6 months from shipping". You can add all the billions of miles you want, but if your basic sensor package can't even detect big rigs, and end up decapitating your car (as has happened twice!), why should I have any confidence that another 12 months of iteration have solved the problems?

I’m pretty sure no-one at Waymo believes they have solved self-driving, and likewise to say they aren’t the current leader in demonstrated autonomous capability is fanciful.
