I like taking hand written notes while reading. In my experience, taking hand written notes helps to absorb and recall information faster as compared to typing it. Also, most editors do a bad job at writing formulae. One downside of taking handwritten notes is that I cannot easily connect my ideas across notes or disciplines ie difficult to create a zettlakasten. The solution I thought of was to buy a device which can convert my hand written notes to digital as well as make it easier for me to create a zettlkasten. So, HN what's your preferred note taking device?
Remarkable 2, hands down.
I have had a terrific time with it. A pleasure to use and an impressive boost of productivity as it has the best of both worlds. Being able to handwrite and organize files in folders on a single device
If you're looking for a new task specific device (e.g. not one that runs Windows 10 and all its distractions) then have a look at https://remarkable.com/ ( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24295443)
8th gen iPad and a 1st gen apple pencil works for me. I also like to write because I find I can hand write notes while holding a conversation, but I can't come anywhere close to speaking while typing. I use OneNote. No handwriting recognition seems to be able to handle my handwriting so I leave the notes in handwritten form
