Ask HN: Would a sandboxed WhatsApp bridge be possible?

3 pointsby oliverjudgeover 4 years ago
Reading through many of these moving away from WhatsApp threads, it seems for some people it would alienate them from friends/family/general life goings on.
Short of running a phone with nothing else on it would it be possible to build a sandboxed WhatsApp instance that's bridged to a different client to keep FB off your actual device? This wouldn't solve chat privacy, but might help isolate the few group chats that might be unavoidable to leave.

You can bridge Whatsapp with Matrix and Matrix with many more messaging apps, e.g. Signal, Telegram, etc. using Android VM: https://matrix.org/docs/guides/whatsapp-bridging-mautrix-wha...
You can also use Matterbridge in a similar manner: https://ibcomputing.com/setting-up-whatsapp-telegram-bridge-...
