Ask HN: Is it possible to be sucessful in tech for someone with mental illness?

3 pointsby imheretolearnover 4 years ago
I think I may have a serious mental illness. Since we work with our minds, I was wondering if it's possible to be successful in tech with such a condition. I don't know anybody who has bipolar, schizophrenia, delusion disorder etc who has been successful in tech. It would be great if you could share your story so that others suffering with the same can be inspired and know that they are not alone.

Yes. If you are looking for validation on that you might check out https://twitter.com/sandboxbear who is open about it, but at the same time, take caution in doing so since they are actively struggling.

you would need a mentor or a partner whom you trust. this is true for anyone with any kind of mental illness, not just for working in tech. good luck. wishing you the best.
