It&#x27;s nice at least a few dead Google products get open sourced instead of deleted outright. I have to imagine this is only possible because it&#x27;s pretty much entirely a client-side desktop application that doesn&#x27;t rely on Google servers for much.<p>Exactly why building apps for the cloud is a big downside.

I just want multiplayer Tilt Brush so more than one person can paint the same scene at the same time.

This is awesome. I had so much fun with tilt brush, but felt that there were just a few things I&#x27;d change. Maybe I will now after I get done with all the other things I&#x27;m doing...<p>I might actually be able to use it (with these modifications) to help me with some of my other projects :)

I was curious what they deleted, so I clicked through to the build guide, and then I got distracted by their trademark conditions (you can&#x27;t call the software you build &quot;Tilt Brush&quot;, which is weird). Tilt Brush&#x27;s trademark info page then contains this gem:<p>&gt; Don’t use the term Tilt Brush as a verb, or use it in possessive form.<p>Oops. That just makes me want to Tilt Brush even more.

Hope they plan to do the same for Google Blocks too, their low poly VR 3D modelling software.<p>Seeing how Google took on VR now makes me frustrated when they enter any new tech. They put so much effort in right at the beginning then backout out almost instantly but crowded the market to prevent other companies building these tools. Should have been clear for anyone back then that VR was a very long term play and didn&#x27;t really become viable at all for 95% of users until stand alone headsets could be made.

Nice, although with Google not maintaining it anymore I wonder if there will be enough community interest to spin it off as a real project rather than just an archive.

Nice! I was going to spend the 20 bucks on this on Steam a couple weeks ago. I&#x27;ll wait for an open source binary to be created and run it that way then!

Open sourcing it is good, but without a formal successor it looks like the community will need to settle on a given fork for future development.

Always thought this should&#x27;ve been open sourced as soon as google acquired it. The mechanic was copied in other VR games and it would&#x27;ve been a good reference&#x2F;learning point for other VR devs. It seemed odd for google to charge for something like this when it could&#x27;ve been used to share and inspire new ideas. Glad they got around to it.

Looks like the community will need to fork it in order to port it away from the proprietary Unity engine and SteamVR, maybe to Godot and Monero&#x2F;OpenXR? Is there a fork yet?

it&#x27;s too bad they are closing down Poly, the gallery of creations with tools like this, but it is nice they are open sourcing their code.
