Heavy elements have all sorts of interesting properties thanks to having so many electrons.<p>For instance Thorium compounds are used for the mantles of gas lights because the are a &quot;black body&quot; for visible light but not so emissive of infrared.<p>There are also uranium compounds that are ferromagnetic and superconducting at the same time, something which isn&#x27;t supposed to be possible, but it is.
