Ask HN: Which collaborative Markdown editor app?

2 pointsby illuminatedover 4 years ago
I’m struggling to find a markdown editor that would fit my needs and wanted to ask fellow HN readers about their experience.
What would I use this editor for:
- note taking: regular note taking for writing down observations, ideas, plans, etc.
- documentation editing: create and edit documentation for various software projects
Features I’d need:
- supporting markdown (would be great if Github flavored markdown is supported as well, but this is not a must)
- WYSIWYG editor (so event tech illiterate people could contribute with writing some documentation)
- support git for storage, including revisions, either natively or through a plugin/add-on
- links graph view
- mind map editor and/or graph editor
- optional encryption would be great
Also, should be cross-platform, or at least to be available on Linux and MacOS.
I have tried many editors so far and none felt good enough.
The best one, at least feature-wise was the GitNote app [0]. It ticks all the boxes above but the UI is not fully in English (parts of the UI are in Chinese, despite setting the app for English language) and it’s kind of “clunky” - the UI is not intuitive enough for documents creation, I cannot save mind maps and graphs I create (I get some explanation in Chinese, but it’s not much of a help to me).
Others do tick some of the boxes above very well, but are lacking either Git integration or other features. The best have been Joplin [1] (lacking git, which would be a must for me) and Obsidian [2], which are both really great as editors, but they do lack a lot of the things I need.
Should I also consider TiddlyWiki [3] for the requirements above? It’s not markdown, I know, but seems able to support most of the other requirements. I just won’t be able to preview the written docs in Github/Gitlab web app.
[0] https://gitnoteapp.com/
[1] https://joplinapp.org/
[2] https://obsidian.md/
[3] https://tiddlywiki.com/
