I can't tell much from the video, but are they able to print pipes, wires, doors? They also mentioned they 'finished it off' with shingles and such.
I started thinking about buying some land and building some kit A frame home for glamping, and it seems like the grading, foundation, plumbing, windows, interior, etc are all a bigger cost than the walls. I never realized this before looking into it.
$212 per sqft is pretty average (considering the price of the land). I am not sure how much this actually saved. The biggest benefit is that you need less workers on site.
If they had built a duplex or triplex it would have been a net gain though.
I don’t understand the economics of it. They must... some business plan must certainly demonstrate the wisdom of this.
But I just don’t grok it... a pre-fab can be trucked in and thrown together in a couple days, plumbing, electrical, and all.
Mmmmmm 3D printed houses.
I would slury the earth on site and extrude clay, also thinking about a foam extruder that could print cacuoons for the unhoused with an embedded solar panel.
Good to see progress in standard construction.
