Ask HN: What skills are invaluable to you for your career?

1 pointsby cauliflower99about 4 years ago
Let me kick it off with some skills of my own which have enabled numerous promotions and opportunities.
Linux Admin - The benefits of learning command line basics in a linux system and finding my way around the infrastructure quickly has helped me become one of the most productive people on my team.
Powerpoint - Knowing what to put in/not put into a presentation to my peers has promoted me twice in the last 3 years.
Python - The language I have most used and debugged in all my roles (automation).
People management - Becoming a team lead was a hardcore version of "How to make friends and influence people".
Writing - I started a blog 2 years ago and have been writing on and off. It has impacted all other parts of my work. Anyone that wants to improve their skills overall should start writing.
Things I want to learn in the near future:
- Business management (I'm trying to kick off a particular side hustle).
- Advanced SQL (Most recommended programming skills I have heard of).
- Remixing shanty songs (Add a beat to any shanty for a guaranteed banger!!! :) )
Those are my two cents! What kind of skills do you know that have been invaluable to you?
