Ask HN: Do you know of a code specific thesaurus?

3 pointsby mfbx9da4about 4 years ago
I often find myself reaching for some synonym for &quot;fooID&quot;, &quot;generateFoo&quot;, &quot;buildFoo&quot; or &quot;getFoo&quot;.<p>Is there some thesaurus for programming words I can lean back on?

Only tangentially related to what you&#x27;re looking for, but you made me think of:<p><a href="https:&#x2F;&#x2F;en.m.wikipedia.org&#x2F;wiki&#x2F;Jargon_File" rel="nofollow">https:&#x2F;&#x2F;en.m.wikipedia.org&#x2F;wiki&#x2F;Jargon_File</a><p><a href="http:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.catb.org&#x2F;jargon&#x2F;html&#x2F;" rel="nofollow">http:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.catb.org&#x2F;jargon&#x2F;html&#x2F;</a><p>If it expands your mind, maybe that&#x27;s good enough.

Just like writing fiction, no one cares if you keep repeating yourself as much as you do. Keep using the de facto standards so that your fellow devs can easily read your code and get on with their work.
