I am just pointing out that to be optionally accessible they had to get to a place where nobody casually has contractual ties into them demanding responsiveness, and nobody formally expects them, and for most of us, bound to sources of income and lifestyle, thats just not possible. So, in that reductionist sense, the lifestyle (which demanded the money) is what permits the outcome.<p>The soft version of this is: ask yourself if you need to be contactable 24/7 and ask yourself if you need to be seen to respond, almost all the time. I got as far as taking work off my personal mobile phone, but I am stuck with work calendar being needed on the phone, to avoid work-life balance mistakes with time management.<p>To be fairer, its got FIRE qualities. He's not astronomically wealthy, compared to eg people who choose to work in a FAANG. He has the kind of money which you expect to have at retirement and will be living a highly budgeted life, in a sustainable manner from investment and income streams.
