Interesting list of seafarers abandoned at sea, usually to to legal or contractual obligations.
This includes the case of Mohammed Aisha[0] who was stuck on board a boat deemed unseaworthy by the Egyptian government and stuck anchored off the Suez Canal. He forced to live aboard the ship alone for 4 years without pay, swimming to shore every few days for supplies. There is an interesting video on his situation[1]
[0] https://www.ilo.org/dyn/seafarers/seafarersbrowse.details?p_...
[1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fddCfXvrw-0
