Ask HN: Is there a advanced degree req to transition to managment?

1 pointsby yeetman21about 4 years ago
I noticed that many people who transitioned from a regular dev role to a management position normally have some sort of advanced degree, even if its just a masters in CS. Is this something that they look for/ is a requirement in your experience? thanks

I&#x27;ve seen managers without even college degrees. It depends on so many factors, but I wouldn&#x27;t get a masters for CS career growth.<p>The opportunity costs + stress isn&#x27;t worth it.

In a word, no. It seems like it’s more important to be in the right place at the right time (EG, your manager quits and you know enough about the project to take over)
