Bloomberg reported yesterday that Texas’ lifting of restrictions had no noticeable effect on the already plateauing case numbers.
Perhaps the herd immunity threshold does not require as high of a vaccination rate if enough people are immune from prior infection. Many people who were infected never took a test because of mild or no symptoms, so they don’t show up in statistics. Immunity from prior infection was recently shown to have the same efficacy as the best-in-class vaccines (95%).
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-05-17/texas-reo...

Always good to hear Corona is becoming less of a threat.
While Texas does not yet have the same level of vaccination as the UK, they did lift restrictions before the UK.
On the other hand if a country is slow to vaccinate (India, Japan), then Corona will be a major health issue for a long time.

In other words, the reporting was slow.
