Let's see, in order to have a wife, you need to be rich, have a house, a car, and be an exec at a major company. The one-child policy has put these kinds of demands on boyz in china for years. Its even called the 'little king', But the most glaring problem is that there aren't many 'exec jobs' in china, Just like usa, most USA urbans don't become major league basketball stars, rock stars, or Fortune 100 CEO's; in china, most college grads don't become ceo-execs, there just isn't enough slots for the billion people.
All this causes a lot of demand to get 'rich quick', sure most got a girlfriend in college, but in order to 'marry her', you got to meet approval of the mother. Huge pressure in china for the little kings to carry on the legacy of the family name, they must get the wife and make offspring, or they lose face.
The above said, todays billionaire of course is like yesterdays millionaire, growing up myself a millionaire was a big deal, IMHO today everybody that owns a house is a millionaire, so what?
So today in China, if you want to have a wife you must set sights high.
Then there is the jack-ma problem, so you become a billionaire, and you own the monopoly per sam here or peter theil, then of course you become a target of the CCP and you eventually 'dissapear'
Having lived in China, on&off the past 40+ years, I can say I have seen amazing change, from normal poverty to the worlds first class 'disneyland/tomorrowland' for most citys.
The other thing today, is everybody in ASIA is playing 'crypto' I think that post y2k era, with the exception of the unicorn thingy on this site, its not easy to become a ceo of your own company like it was post 1980's
So the problem is still there, if you want a wife you got to be rich, but the only way people can get rich is crypto, so everybody is in over their head.
Well to summarize this topic, friends probably don't want to lose friends, once the boy is a billionaire, he's got a wife&kids, you never see him again, the others who are still 'poor' can do the misery loves company thingy.
This is all because of the one child policy. Now if you look at the USA, this is not a problem, most people can hookup if they wish. Wealth helps, but its not critical.
Just to make something clear having lived in China, that in the rural area's its common to see 2-3 sons, people need the labor, its only in the City's that the one-child policy was ruthlessly enforced.
