China's tech companies seem like a giant version of the prisoners' dilemma. If the workers could just agree to cooperate, they could have reasonable working conditions. They could rotate the "privilege" of being the "loser", where the loser purposely puts in a low effort, and the 4 other workers agree to limit their hours and productivity to a reasonable level, and perhaps they have a lottery to pick the one "winner" who gets to work harder and advance their career.<p>That would effectively be a union.
