Forgive me if this was already well-known or obvious - I learnt about it recently and accidentally and it was disappointing to learn.<p>I had been logging reviews of places on Google Maps just because of the convenience compared to Yelp's separate app and because of the obvious lack of perverse incentives compared to what I had heard about Yelp.<p>I had some terrible experiences recently with some horrid business that I felt were outright scams so I logged reviews containing the necessary details and appropriate rating. One day, I was casually browsing Google Maps incognito and noticed that my review of one of the places was not visible. Going back to the GMaps app, the review was present as if nothing was wrong, with the business's 'response' intact. I checked a few other places for which I had logged negative reviews and most of these were invisible when incognito but were still present in my list of Google Maps Contributions. I similarly checked a negative review a friend had logged about a place that had tried to scam them and same thing: they could see it in their list but it wasn't visible to me logged in as myself or incognito.<p>It is sad that Google is soliciting reviews and then silently hiding them without letting the reviewer know. I imagine that scam businesses probably are able to afford nasty lawyers to coerce Google into becoming an enabler/participant of their scams.<p>I was wondering whether anyone knows of better places to log and view reviews of businesses.
