Stuff like this is why I'm very reluctant to adopt new hardware. Companies treat us as the testing group instead of doing it themselves first just to inject some capital and work out the kinks later. This is why I'm so against initiatives to punish people for gas cars, especially in the US. It's like saying you need to be rich to drive but you can't work unless you can drive. $30k for a car is absurd when I can buy a beater on craigslist for $1500.
Tl;dr - I’ve stopped trusting new car warranties after trying to claim on one, and will be buying used cars until I’m forced to stop.
Not an EV, but a similar story with my previous car has likely swayed me from buying new vehicles for the foreseeable future. Demonstrator Audi A6 purchased from dealership with a warranty developed the at the time common DSG gearbox shuddering, tried to bring it in for service, technicians reported they were unable to reproduce issue. This went on for nearly a year until the gearbox finally gave up and left me stranded, at which point Audi quoted me over $8,000AUD for a rebuild. My protestations that the car was basically new with less than 25,000kms on it and still under warranty when I first reported the issue went nowhere until I threatened legal action.
I immediately sold it once repaired and have been driving the same 20 year old manual Subaru since, and would not hesitate to buy another as my next car. As a bonus, the interior of the higher end early 2000s Legacy wagons is very good, I would say even more quality than the Audi.
