Hey Hacker News Community!
Thanks to the Hacker News mods for allowing us to post this here. The HackerNoon team has created a new platform to nominate and vote for your favorite startups all over the world - anyone can nominate, anyone can vote!
To talk more about the details behind the development of the software, here are some words from our lead dev of the project:
"Hey HN community! We built a ballot voting app when we started the Noonies (our yearly writer awards) because we found the current solutions out there too limiting, and most of all requiring user registration in order to limit duplicate votes. We got around that by storing session data on which awards a user voted for. Granted, it’s not a fool-proof approach, but it sufficed for most general users. We could still monitor for suspicious voting activity via analytics, and correct accordingly. We also made use of Google’s reCAPTCHA v3 to hinder bot voting.
Startups is a fork off the Noonies with a fresh lick o’ paint and some structural differences. But it’s powered by the same voting system."
We hope that this platform can help startups with limited marketing budgets get their name out there and have a place to live permanently on the web and be shared with a larger community.
We'd be happy to hear your comments on what we've built and any suggestions you may have for us.
Cheers!
- The HackerNoon Team
