Sometimes when I’m dumber than usual I try to make up for it with more coffee. Wonder if something like that could be driving this. People with dementia try to compensate with more coffee.

Sigh. Coffee contains so much more than just caffeine; chiefly, large amounts of monoamine oxidase inhibitors. These have effects on our brains, but they are rarely investigated in coffee studies.<p>The same applies for tobacco and nicotine — in fact, tobacco smoke contains large amounts of many of the same monoamine oxidase inhibitors found in coffee.

They misunderstand. The whole point of drinking coffee is to increase brain volume.
