According to the legend, folks at Pixar were way more productive when Jobs was busy at Apple, and vice versa for Apple employees! The true power of remote work?
What’s interesting is that at the same time, even though he was at NeXT and Pixar, Apple already had the first, albeit very rudimentary, commercial remote work system, AppleLink with GEIS. This eventually evolved to QuantumLink for consumers (later known as AOL).
The official history has AppleLink starting up in 1985, just after Steve Jobs left, maybe an Apple old-timer would know more about that story.
Of course Jobs was always trying to imagine the future, and telepresence wasn't exactly his idea. Lots of sci-fi novels with that premise by 1990. And what do you need to take advantage of this hot new remote work thing? A NeXT Workstation, of course! Just $9,999, checks payable to Steven Jobs...
I'd hazard to guess that some scifi writer had writtern about this even earlier. Why is it a surprise that a guy who sold personal computers in the age of personal internet access envisioned ecommerce, remote work etc?
Steve Wozniak was chiefly responsible for the Apple I and Apple II. Jobs just took all the credit.
https://www.macworld.co.uk/news/who-is-steve-wozniak-3495076...
