TLDR: Severe Covid infection can cause histamine storm (similar to allergic reaction). Mechanical ventilation can make this worse as physical stress on the lungs can also cause histamine release. Remedies: 1) Give antihistamines. 2) If ventilating, preheat (37°C) and humidify (100%) the air. Interview cites "excellent" results but no numbers are given.
