Very cool - connecting Brower's Fixed Point Theorem to economic equilibrium. Topology, shake hands with finance.
And what a collection of brilliant people! Abraham Wald, John Von Neumann, Karl Menger, Kurt Godel, Oskar Morgenstern (of game-theory fame), Franz Alt (a founder of the ACM).
Minor nitpick: This is the wrong emblem, post-WWII ("second republic"), as may be recognized by the broken chains hanging from the fang.
Fun fact:
Q: Why are there hammer and sickle in the fangs of the eagle, is Austria a communist country? A: No, but it's actually related. The mural crown, the hammer and the sickle represent the three classes or estates, the mural crown the bourgeoisie, the hammer the workers and the sickle farmers, respectively. (This was ported over from a first, dismissed draft of 1918, showing a tower for the bourgeoisie in the center, surrounded by two bundles of ear heads and crossed hammers on top.) It's actually the same symbolism as used by communist states (minus the representation of the bourgeoisie) but totally unrelated.
