Ask HN: Have you made a straightforward request for promotion and received it?

Promotion processes in big companies seem so convoluted, perhaps intending to discourage the employee from trying. Has anyone just made a straightforward request for promotion (no hoops) and gotten it? How?

Yup.
I meticulously track all of my work and project achievements and pushed for a promotion and showcased how much more I can do for the organization with that new role/title/position.
You generally do not get promoted for what you already did, but rather what you will do in the future.

Yes, repeatedly told my boss I felt I deserved a higher title than the one I had and kept doing a good job. You also have to be respected by your peers or it’s harder for the boss to justify.

> How?
Ask for a title-only promotion with no financial change.
